Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect when I start therapy?

In our first session, we will explore what that brings you to therapy, including your goals and past experiences, and how we may work together. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions about the process and my therapeutic approach. As part of my commitment to good practice, I will undertake an informal assessment, which includes your history and GP details,  so that I can begin to understand who you are and where you are coming from. If we are both happy to proceed, we could agree on a number of sessions to begin with. These first few sessions provide an opportunity to get to know you better, and decide whether to continue working together.

How long should I be in therapy?

That is up to you.

Everyone has different goals and objectives from therapy; maybe there is a particular issue you would like to work on, or perhaps you would prefer long-term support to undertake deeper explorations.  The length of your therapy is tailored to you and what you are looking for from our relationship.

Who is therapy for?

Anyone!

People turn to therapy to address different goals. Perhaps you are looking for support to help navigate a particular challenge, or would like to overcome some unhelpful or limiting patterns. Maybe you want to get to know yourself a little better, and live in alignment with your authentic self. I believe that anyone can benefit from therapy.  Whether you are seeking help to overcome trauma, or are living with anxiety, depression, or facing difficulties in relationships, or just want to get to know yourself better, therapy can help.

How long does a session usually last?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes long, and are ideally held at the same time on a weekly basis. There is an option to reschedule or skip a week, or to have a double session if the needed.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, I offer both in-person and secure online video sessions to make therapy as accessible and flexible as possible.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. Our sessions and your personal information are completely confidential and will be guarded with utmost respect. I am bound by professional codes of conduct as defined by UKCP, one of the main organisations that self-regulates the Counselling and Psychotherapy sector in the UK.

There are two exceptions: the first is to prevent harm to yourself, or others. This would only be in extreme circumstances, and I would always discuss this with you first. The other exception is if I was ordered by a court of law to share my notes.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a psychotherapist, I do not prescribe meditation or offer diagnoses. In some instances, I can work with your GP or psychiatrist to help support you.

 How much does therapy cost?

I charge £75  per 50-minute session. In some instances, I may offer reduced rates to help make therapy more accessible.
