Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect when I start therapy?
The goal of our initial consultation is to explore your therapy requirements and how I may be of service. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the process and my approach. As part of my commitment to good practice, I take a personal history in our first session, which includes your history and GP details. If we are both happy to proceed, we would agree a number of sessions to begin with. These first few sessions an opportunity to get to know you better, and to decide whether to continue working together.
How long should I be in therapy?
Quite simply, how long is a piece of string? Everyone has different goals and objectives from therapy; maybe there is a particular issue you would like to work on, or perhaps you would prefer long-term support to undertake deeper explorations. The length of the therapy is tailored to you and what you are looking for from your therapy. We would regularly review together the number of sessions and your goals of the therapy.
Who is therapy for?
Anyone!
Perhaps you are looking into therapy to help navigate a particular challenge, or perhaps you’d like to overcome some unhelpful, limiting patterns, or maybe you want to get to know yourself a little better, and life in alignment with your authentic self. I believe that anyone can benefit from therapy, though our goals may be different. Whether you are seeking help to overcome trauma, or for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or just want to get to know yourself better, therapy can help.
How long does a session usually last?
Sessions are typically last 50 minutes, and are ideally held at the same time, on a weekly basis. There is an option to reschedule or skip a week, or to have a double session if the need arises.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes, I offer both in-person and secure online video sessions to make therapy as accessible and flexible as possible.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes. Our sessions and your personal information is completely confidential and will be guarded with utmost respect. I am bound by professional codes of conduct as defined by UKCP, one of the main organisations that self-regulates the Counselling and Psychotherapy sector in the UK.
The only exceptions to confidentiality are in order to prevent harm to yourself, or to others. This would only be in extreme circumstances, and I would always discuss this with you first. The other exception is if I was ordered by a court of law to share my notes.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. As a psychotherapist, I do not prescribe meditation or offer diagnoses. In some instances, I can work with your GP orpsychiatrist to help support you.
How much does therapy cost?
I charge £70 per 50-minute session. In some instances, I may offer reduced rates to help make therapy more accessible.
